DOUGLAS NELSON, PRESIDENT AND FOUNDER, BCTMB, LMT, PNMT
Doug is a Board Certified Massage Therapist and the president and founder of BWA, practicing massage therapy since 1977. Doug’s main focus is Precision Neuromuscular Therapy, which is the heart and soul of the BWA approach to pain. He is the founder of NMT MidWest, teaching Precision Neuromuscular Therapy both in the US and also abroad. He is a member of the International Myopain Association, the International Association for the Study of Pain, and the American Massage Therapy Association. Doug is the author of three books, Table Lessons: Insights in the Practice of Massage Therapy (Volumes 1 and 2) and The Mystery of Pain. He is also a regular columnist for Massage and Bodywork magazine. Doug is the president of the Massage Therapy Foundation, which advances the knowledge and practice of massage therapy by supporting scientific research in the field. Although he sees many clients a week, he sees a limited number of new clients and only sees people with very specific problems. His real expertise is in assessing the needs and origins of soft tissue problems. He was awarded the 2013 Educator of the Year and the 2015 Pioneer Award from the Illinois Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association. He was also inducted into the massage therapy Hall of Fame in 2018. Most recently, Doug received the 2020 AMTA National President’s Award for service to the massage therapy profession.
JANE MADER, LMT
Jane Mader has been a Massage Therapist and Reiki Practitioner since 2016. She graduated from Cortiva Institute, where she received a wide variety of technique education. Her background is more therapeutic versus relaxing, viewing massage as a necessary tool to achieve balance and wellness in the body. She has a background in rehabilitation, as I come from Advantage Wellness Center (chiropractic work) and the Mettler Center (physical therapy emphasis). Jane’s touch is compassionate and restorative as she works along specific muscles and pain patterns, which makes her massages feel like deep pressure. She is passionate about educating, helping and healing.
DANIELLE ELLIS, LMT
Danielle graduated from Parkland College with honors and her associates in Massage Therapy and Personal Training. She has also obtained a Bachelors of Arts from Illinois Wesleyan University focusing on Business Management and Administration with a minor in Exercise Science. Danielle was on the IWU Women’s golf team all four years. Since obtaining her licenses for Massage Therapy and Personal Training, Danielle has been focused towards helping many individuals from all walks of life. She is certified in Swedish for stress relief and muscular pain and will be continuing her education in Precision Neuromuscular Therapy to better help and serve everyone in the community. She will be working at all three of our locations and is looking forward to learn as much as possible to better serve the individuals in her community!
